A Day as an Archaeologist: Imagining Ancient Tombs

Activity: Talk and presentationProfessional or public presentationPopular

Description

In this workshop our team members will walk participants through a day in the life of an archaeologist reconstructing tombs. Participants will be presented with a brief introductory presentation to funerary customs and forms across the ancient Mediterranean ranging from Prehistory to the dawn of Christianity. Following the presentation, attendants will be given an interactive puzzle. This puzzle will consist of 4-5 tombs that need to be sorted into their appropriate time period. Using only information from our presentation and supplementary data from visual aids the “future archaeologists' will use their newly learned skills to identify important aspects of tombs that help archaeologists study ancient societies (e.g. rituals, social organization, identity, etc.).
