Description

The introduction of AI in museum visitor research has created great potential in creating applications that quickly respond to visitors’ needs and expectations, and, ultimately, promote further the visitor-centered approach of contemporary museum practice. In parallel with the massive growth AI has seen in the last decade, the discussion on the ethical embracement of AI applications for any kind of research, including museum research, is being advanced. This paper focuses on the ethical methodology applied within AI TRACE, a two-year-HFRI funded research project. Based on the aforementioned ethics considerations and implementation methods, an ethics impact assessment, context-specific for AI TRACE was conducted, aimed at assessing the relative severity of the potential ethical impacts, the likelihood of their occurrence, and any potential value conflicts that may arise.
