Baas over eigen data? - Master of your own data? (in Dutch)

We kunnen niet meer zonder mobiele telefoon, digitaal betalen, foto’s in de cloud en noem maar op. Maar wie beschikt er eigenlijk over de gegevens (data) die dat oplevert? Klopt het dat die in handen zijn van een aantal grote – Amerikaanse – bedrijven? En hoe erg is dat?

Om daar meer over te weten hebben we Oskar Gstrein universitair hoofddocent ‘Human Dignity in the Digital Age’ gevraagd met ons in gesprek te gaan. Vragen die aan de orde komen zijn:

Hoe ziet de structuur van datastromen er uit?
Hoe ziet onze eigen afhankelijkheid ervan uit?
Welke alternatieven zijn er en wat zou een goede manier van regulering zijn?
Kortom over welke autonomie beschikken we op dit gebied?

We cannot live without mobile phones, digital payments, photos in the cloud and you name it. But who actually disposes of the data (data) that produces it? Is it true that it is in the hands of some big - US - companies? And how bad is that?

To find out more about this, we asked Oskar Gstrein associate professor of ‘Human Dignity in the Digital Age’ to talk to us. Questions to be addressed are:

What does the structure of data flows look like?
What does our own dependence on it look like?
What alternatives are there and what would be a good way of regulating them?
In short, what autonomy do we have in this area?
