COP27: Leaving No One Behind: Climate Action and Social Impact Assessments

Activity: Talk and presentationProfessional or public presentationProfessional

    Description

Global climate change recognizes no boundaries in reference to geography, gender, location, age, culture, or belief system and affects people across the globe. However, the impacts of climate change do not affect everyone equally. This panel event, Leaving No One Behind: Climate Action and Social Impact Assessments, is aimed at exploring the linkages between social impact assessment at the project level and broader climate justice outcomes.

The purpose of the session is to reinforce and center the role of people in climate change projects and investments and emphasize why it is important to have an equitable approach to addressing potential social impacts from the outset. Panelists will discuss the specific roles of Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and stakeholder engagement in advancing climate justice both at the project scale and more broadly, and the important role that communities should play when climate change projects are designed, implemented, and monitored.
