Description

On June 9th 2021, I had the pleasure of presenting along with LUIS ENRIQUE ARBELAEZ OROZCO our research "Deconstructing Cowspiracy: the linkages between climate change and livestock" during the Conference "Veganism: a paradigm shift?" organized by the Sapienza Università di Roma

We share with you some of our conclusions:

The figures of the documentary Cowspiracy on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from #livestock (51% on the documentary and 18% on the website) are higher than those provided by the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change #IPCC (9-14%)

Depending on the variables measured, livestock is the 2nd or 3rd main global source of #ghgemissions, and any analysis of measures to mitigate #climatechange should include the livestock sector

Since the 2014 Assessment Report, the IPCC has included dietary shifts towards plant-based diets as a mitigation measure against #climatechange

Finally, we identify potential improvements in IPCC reports:
·To separate clearly livestock GHG emissions from other land uses such as crops
·To improve the measuring of livestock’s GHG emissions on farmgate and its transport, in order to make it more homogeneous with FAO's reports
