Description

After a career as a full-time tennis player, Prof. Dr. Ruud den Hartigh moved into academia with a strong passion for sport and talent development. He received his Ph.D. from the Universities of Montpellier and Groningen in 2015 and is currently Professor of Talent Development at the Department of Psychology of the University of Groningen. He coordinates the international master's program Talent Development and Creativity and chairs the Center of Expertise for Talent Development at his institute. His research centers around the topics of talent development, talent identification, and resilience. He focuses on the complexity of talent development through dynamic (systems) approaches and combines insights from selection psychology and sport science to enhance talent identification practices. His research is strongly embedded in sport and other performance contexts, such as the military. As such, he works closely with a number of professional sports clubs and associations (e.g. in football and tennis) as well as with the Commando Corps of the Royal Netherlands Army.
