How To Get the PDF (with or without the help of your library)

Activity: Talk and presentationProfessional or public presentationProfessional

    Description

Access to journals can be very expensive and many institutions do not have the funds to have a subscription on everything. Especially organizations outside of academia struggle with access to research. In addition, the organizations with access should ask the question, what will we do if we suddenly lose access to a range of journals because the subscription was cancelled? When the library cannot deliver an article, we know our users will use other ways of getting the pdf. However, we hardly ever discuss this. How many ways are there exactly? How do they work?
How can I find open access articles in the most efficient way? Participants will learn about all possible ways, tools and tips for users to find the fulltext of scientific publications. We will give an overview of (licensed) access tools used by libraries worldwide. These tools include for example browser extensions such as LeanLibrary, Kopernio, LibKey Nomad, AnyWhereAccess, Open Access Button, UnPayWall, CORE Discovery, and more. And we will also show open access databases where you can find open access material in a legal way, such as: DOAJ, CORE, OSF Preprints, Dimensions, 1Finder, BASE and more.
