Description
Emotions are one of the countless reactions that art can evoke in each of us. They are the combination of our physical and mental changes happening as a result of the encounter with an artwork. This two-part talk will first explore what science has to say about how emotions are perceived and expressed during art encounters, and then present some approaches for the empirical investigation of emotional responses to arts. Techniques of subjective reportage can identify the analyze the different components of emotions. Namely, the type of emotion we feel, its strength of intensity, and the sensations in our body that come as our emotion arises. These techniques want to answer the many questions concerning the way these components color our experience of an artwork. For instance: do we experience emotions and sensations evoked by art in the same way we experience them in our everyday life?
