During the event, Pim G. Boute presented his research findings described in his PhD thesis "Effects of electrical stimulation on marine organisms". After the presentation, a question-and-answer session was held with the audience.

This public event was organised by the European People's Party and, specifically, the Member of European Parliament (MEP) Peter van Dalen (member of the Dutch Christian Union party). After the PhD defence of Boute on 25 April 2022, he was invited by MEP van Dalen to present his findings in the European Parliament.

The research of Boute was partly funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union via the Dutch government.
