‘Media under attack!’ You’ve probably seen that headline in the news recently. And, you’ve read about how journalists face immense risks of harassment, threats, abuse and even death in their line of work. But what exactly is different today? This talk is about ‘media hate’, what it means to journalists and the news, and what we can do to defend media freedom.

During the Liberation Festival on 5 May, the University of Groningen (RUG) will be present in the Stadspark with its own location on the festival grounds: the Science Space. In this unique space – built from two sea containers and the mobile RUG Speech Lab – visitors will be introduced to science in a surprisingly accessible way.
