Description
Creativity is often thought to require absolute freedom from constraints. However, research shows that this view is too limited: constraints (for example, in the form of detailed instructions as to how to perform a creativity task, or in the form of a narrowly defined problem) can actually contribute to creative performance, especially for people with a high need for structure. In this presentation, I will present empirical work relating to creativity and structure, and some preliminary theory regarding the best way to implement task structure in creative tasks.
