Description

Guest lecturer during the online lecture on Environmental Law and Ethics.

I shared my analysis on the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon, and the future of offshore oil and gas exploration and production in Europe and America.

A decade after the disaster, and recent developments such as the oil spill in Mauritius, new oil discoveries in Suriname, the growing interest of developing countries for exploring and exploiting their offshore oil and gas reserves, and the energy transition, make timely to reflect on the following questions:

What were the improvements in safety standards introduced by the USA after the Deepwater Horizon accident?

What were the regulatory impacts of the accident in major offshore oil and gas producer countries in America and Europe?

What is the role of offshore oil and gas in the energy transition in Europe and America?

In this opportunity, I also included an analysis on the last investigation reports published by the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. p
