#46 Can sound reduce pain during surgery?

Press/Media: ResearchPopular

Description

It is widely known that sound can have a positive effect on you. For example, do you want your food to taste better? Put on some background music, such as light classical music or jazz.
Certain sound waves, so-called binaural beats, even seem to reduce pain in initial studies, says university lecturer Kirsten van den Bosch of the University of Groningen. However, more research is needed to determine the positive effects of sound on health.

Van den Bosch and her team will contribute to this at the Noorderzon festival and its' audience. They will measure the influence of sound on, for example, the reaction speed of the audience. Do you want to know what those binaural beats sound like? You can hear that in this episode of OOG op Wetenschap.
