[The General Directorate of Historical Heritage has authorised the implementation of a General Archaeological Research Project (PGI) centred on the Roman city of Carissa Aurelia, a site declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, located in the municipalities of Espera and Bornos (Cádiz). This city has pre-Roman origins and was privileged by Julius Caesar, attaining the legal status of municipality. However, no excavations have ever been carried out inside the urban centre and only a few emerging architectural remains are known, corresponding to public buildings and its remarkable hypogean tombs.]
