Title Phsycian2040 already needed now Degree of recognition National Media name/outlet Medisch Contact Media type Web Duration/Length/Size two pages Country/Territory Netherlands Date 19/01/2021 Description he 2020 Rammplan (Dutch national Physician Training Plan), which was published last year - the framework for the UMCs to organize their medical training - devotes more explicit attention than previous versions to prevention, accessible and appropriate care and the social context in which the doctor will work.1 This means a good starting position for the development of the CanMeds competence 'social action'. Yet the question is whether this will actually change the medicine curriculum. After all, social action was already included in the previous framework plan, but was only rarely discussed in the curricula. According to the panel that visited all medical courses in the Netherlands in 2017, and found that the UMCs did not prepare their students sufficiently for their future, often outside the hospital.2 This raises two questions: What should a curriculum look like that really prepares future doctors for social action? And what does it take to realize such a society-oriented curriculum?
