The Privatisation Activities of the Treuhandanstalt and the Transformation of the East German Corporate Landscape: A New Dataset for First Explorations

The IWH Treuhand Micro Database is a new data set that illustrates the privatisation of East German companies in the first half of the 1990s by the Treuhandanstalt (THA). The data set is based on matching data from the official company directory of the THA with company information from the Hoppenstedt company directories 1992–1994. It consists of 3,282 manufacturing companies and contains general information, employment and turnover data for the years 1990–1994 and additional information on company status. Detailed information on building and structure of the data set is provided in the IWH Technical Report 01/2018.
