Personal profile

Research interests

I am Aletta Jacobs Chair in 'Place, Social Change and Collaborative Research for Wellbeing and Justice' with a strong commitment to critical and feminist geography, interdisciplinary research, and societal impact. My work explores how place, identity, and well-being intersect, particularly for marginalized groups. Using participatory methods like walking interviews, visual data, and co-creation, I ensure research is inclusive, reflective of lived experiences, and accessible through exhibitions, books, and public events.

My research addresses global challenges— disability, migration, aging, and environmental change—through local, community-based studies. I advocate for "slow science," prioritizing care, collaboration, and long-term engagement. My teaching emphasizes experiential learning, encouraging students to connect theory with real-world challenges through project-based and participatory approaches.

I facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical participatory research, and diverse perspectives. I mentor early-career researchers and students, ensuring knowledge is shared through public engagement and accessible formats. My approach bridges academia and society, amplifying underrepresented voices and driving meaningful change.
