Research interests

Recovery after critical illness can be troublesome. In collaboration with the Medical Centre Leeuwarden we investigate how Intensive Care Unit survivors recover over time and which patients need additional aftercare. Furthermore, we try to develop a futureproof aftercare program that can provide personalised support for patients in need. To this end, we are currently working on the following projects:

- Data research on the different trajectories of recovery after critical illness
- The evaluation of a rehabilitation program for ICU survivors with Post-Intensive Care Syndrome
- Healthcare innovation to use serious gaming and eHealth in ICU aftercare
- Research on measuring the impact of personal, societal, and environmental context on health and lifestyle behaviour
