Daphne Penna (University of Groningen, Law Faculty, Legal History Department) was honoured by the Academy of Athens with the annual award 2020 ‘Nikolaou Karolou’ with the price of 3000 euros. The Academy of Athens is the highest scientific institution in Greece.
Every year in December the Academy of Athens in a festive session honours scholars from the following three sections: 1. The First Section consists of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine and Astronomy, 2. The Second Section consists of Letters and Fine Arts, 3. The Third Section includes Theology, Philosophy, Law, Political Sciences and Economic Sciences. [see Sections | Academy of Athens] The Academy of Athens honoured for the year 2020 ten scholars from the Third section, eight of whom also received an award. Penna was one of the eight scholars who received an award. She received the award for her publication on “Similar Problems, Similar Solutions? Byzantine Chrysobulls and Crusader Charters on Legal Issues Regarding the Italian Maritime Republics” in D. Slootjes & M. Because of the corona measures the official ceremony in the Academy of Athens will be scheduled within 2021.
