Description
In this monograph, based on my PhD (2014), I explored the semantics of a complex Greek key concept hosiotes. I resolved the scholarly debates and elucidated the meaning and usage of hosios and its disputed semantic relationships to other essential Greek values (eusebeia and dikaiosunê ), using insights and methodologies from the field of Cognitive Linguistics. Specifically, I have studied the distribution of hosios in contrast with the distribution of these semantically related terms, thus focussing on lexical competition between hosios and its near-synonyms.
