    Abstract

    The anisotropy in the lattice dynamics of NiI2 and CoI2 was studied by polarized far-IR-reflection spectroscopy at 4.2-300 K. The static and high-frequency dielec. consts., the frequencies of the transverse and longitudinal optical modes, and the damping consts. were detd. The anisotropy arises from dipole oscillations.
