Abstract
History of sports is still the ugly duck of academic history in the Netherlands. The goal of this article is to show that a combination of the history of popular culture and media studies can bring Dutch sport history into the arena of Dutch professional history. The constructed life history of a famous Dutch soccer player functions as a heuristic model here.
