Abstract

The analysis of different approaches for evaluation of surface energy of microbial cells by contact angle goniometry was presented. The discussion addressed two independent issues of examination of the surface energy alongwith the different components of the surface energy for microbial cells and evaluation of different approaches for their internal consistency, similarities and dissimilarities. The results showed that out of four different approaches, the Lifshitz-van der Waals acid-base (LW-AB) approach was found to give the most consistent results.
