Abstract
Given the strategic implications of digital transformation, firms’ digital readiness is an essential yet underutilized research line. Drawing on the theory of organizational readiness for change, we develop the construct of digital readiness. Past research neglects the role of industry on digital readiness. Following the prior IS studies on the industry effect, we argue that industries shape firms' technological needs and view digital readiness as configurations depending on these needs. Further, we investigate the performance impacts of various digital readiness configurations to address the inconclusive findings on the business value of digital transformation. Our study offers significant contributions to the IS literature on organizational readiness and digital transformation.
