Abstract

This article concentrates on the Dutch art critic Kasper Niehaus (1889-1974) and compares two important exhibitions concerning Neue Sachlichkeit; the iconic one in Mannheim in 1925 and the lesser known one in Amsterdam, in 1929, and Niehaus's art-critical judgments in a more general sense on Neue Sachlichkeit and Magic Realism.
