Abstract

Complex dynamic systems are systems organized in a network-like fashion, consisting of interacting components that iteratively influence one another in changing ways to shape the development of the system as a whole. Studying (second) language (knowledge) from a dynamic systems perspective opens new avenues to investigate how developmental change in individual language learners takes place over time, and characteristics of time-series data that are typical of complex dynamic systems gain new relevance and explanatory power.
