Abstract

Fast pyrolysis is an efficient technology to convert biomass to a high yield of “pyrolysis liquids” and as such is a significant concentration step to reduce storage space and transport costs. In addition, it allows feeding of biomass derived liquids in existing refineries, with or without suitable pretreatment. The focus of this chapter is to provide an overview of the state of the art regarding the (co-)feeding of (upgraded) pyrolysis liquids in existing refineries.
