Abstract
The texts presents a summary of a recent research dealing with the Spanish legal expert and prison intendant C. Arenal's contribution to psychology. Mülberger argues that her book on the visitor of the poor (1860) was viewed at the time as a psychological text. In a later article she published in 1887, Arenal uses the label "comparative psychology" for her work. Mülberger shows how a reassessment of these texts can help to better understand her project and its inherent opposition with the then rising Italian criminology of the Positivist School.
