Abstract
Charge exchange spectroscopy of fusion plasmas relies on an accurate knowledge of state selective electron capture cross sections. Here we discuss the gathering and evaluation of such cross sections, with emphasis on electron capture by He2+ and C6+. The influence of metastable atoms on the plasma diagnostics by means of visible light charge exchange spectroscopy is recognized and treated.
