Depression and anxiety are associated with hand eczema. It can also lead to sickness presenteeism and absenteeism from work. Furthermore, hand eczema can induce high costs. Overall patients experience a loss of quality of life. A new measurement instrument that specifically measures this in hand eczema patients is the Quality Of Life in Hand Eczema Questionnaire (QOLHEQ). The use of this instrument provides a better opportunity to assess the issues of patients compared to currently used instruments like the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Focus on the overall impact of the disease makes it possible to provide more individualized care for patients with hand eczema.
