Abstract

Bulldozers & Bloednoazen – De stadsrand van Leeuwarden (Bulldozers and Bloody Noses – The city edge of Leeuwarden) is a photo book depicting the transition, and sometimes the collision, between the city (Leeuwarden, Fryslân, Netherlands) and the countryside. Theunis Piersma’s grandparents lived at the northern edge of Leeuwarden; Theunis wrote an involved foreword (De rânen van Ljouwert) with a personal account of the loss of connection between city and countryside.
