Abstract

Democracy and freedom require resilient rule of law and withdrawal of 2018 own-initiative bill of Wilders and De Graaf (both PVV MP's) seeking to establish by law that Islam is not a religion but a violent, totalitarian ideology. The proposal also introduces a ban on mosques, Islamic schools, printing, selling and distributing the Koran and wearing the burka and nikaab in public spaces. In short, a bill that has long given hands and feet to the election manifesto and violates the essential principles of the democratic rule of law, including some fundamental rights, such as the principle of equality, the prohibition of discrimination, freedom of religion and freedom of education.
