Digital Readiness: Construct Development and Empirical Validation

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionAcademicpeer-review

Digital technologies bring ample business opportunities, and at the same time, pose several challenges for firms. Viewing digital transformation as a process of change, we draw from change management literature and propose that firm digital readiness is necessary to explain the success of the digital transformation and better firm performance. However, readiness concept has not been systematically understood. As part of a construct development project, this short study focuses on analyzing what has been done with organizational readiness in the information systems (IS) literature and identifies the limitations of this research stream. Integrating the theory of organizational readiness for change, the extant IS research on organizational readiness as well as the context of digital transformation, this study proposes a comprehensive digital readiness construct. Digital readiness consists of digital assets, digital capabilities and digital commitment. The future steps and expected contribution are also provided.
