Abstract
There is a lot of confusion among doctors and researchers about the meaning of the English term ‘effect size’.
Much of this confusion is caused by the indiscriminate use of the terms ‘effect size’ and ‘standardised effect size’.
This article discusses the meaning of both terms. It also discusses the purposes for which standardised effect sizes are used and how they can be interpreted in clinical practice.
