Abstract
EUscreen is a network of European broadcasters and audiovisual archives, media scholars, and technical experts. We facilitate access and engagement with audiovisual content by providing an independent online platform - euscreen.eu, and by forging collaborations aimed at contextualising content and enhancing audience engagement. We promote dialogue on audiovisual publication standards, IPR, multilinguality, etc. We act as an expert hub and an audiovisual aggregator to Europeana.
We are a foundation under Dutch law (Stichting EUscreen), set up in 2013. The EUscreen initiative started in October 2009 with funding from the European Commission, though the initial group was set up already in 2006 under the Video Active project. Since that time, through a succession of EU-funded projects, more than 60,000 videos and related materials, presented in rich context, representing Europe’s television and broader audiovisual heritage have been made available online through our portal. We are constantly improving the technology and the user experience on the EUscreen portal and aim to place the EUscreen collection in various curatorial contexts tailored to the needs of education, research, and the general public.
As a network, we facilitate online access to Europe’s audiovisual history through rich and robust digital content and advocate for its use in education, research, media production and public engagement and thus to advance active engagement with the cultural memory of Europe both at a national and European level.
