Abstract

A young woman is referred to a chaplain after exposure treatment has been stopped. Central issues are her severe fear of death and lack of trust. The chaplain uses imagery to enable the woman to face her fears. She then accompanies the woman through various dealings with her fear of death in the form of music, reading, conversations, and visiting compline prayers at a monastry. The woman is gradually able to develop trust and face her fears. The question arises if the chalaincy care was perhaps an alternative form of exposure.
