Abstract
Psychoanalytic criticism is known primarily for its interpretations of literary texts. However, the application of psychoanalytic concepts and insights to literary texts in order to reveal hitherto hidden layers of meaning in the text and motives on the part of the author is merely one of the many facets of this rich discipline of literary studies. Virtually all aspects of literary communication have been the subject of psychoanalytic criticism. Thus Freud and Fiction is a survey of the psychoanalytic perspective on all literary genres.
