Abstract

This survey (N= 516) with additional interviews (N = 15) reviews the worries and problems of home-owner with a mortgage in the area of Groningen (The Netherlands) that is affected by induced earthquakes, caused by gas-extraction. The negative impacts of earthquakes on the housing market (longer time on the market, lower transactionprices, sometimes properties can not be sold at all) result in higher Loan to Value rates, and problems with getting additional of prolongated loans. The chance that problems are reported is higher for damaged houses, and it also relates to type of loan and age.
