Abstract
The Dutch administrative and policy attention for cross-border labour markets is in sharp contrast with a lack of empirical evidence on actual labour market problems on both sides of the border. Although the potential of cross-border labour markets exist, actual commuting flows are in fact low and constant in time. The incoming commuting from Germany is many times larger than the outgoing commuting. We call for a more realistic approach based on facts, evidence-based assessments and joint action by both countries and tuning (duality) of policies in the approach to cross-border labor markets.
