Abstract

The chapter describes the activities of the Henkes genever firm in the world, more specifically in Ghana. Special attention is given to the fact that Henkes, established in 1824, used a marketing strategy based of brand names and labeling from a very early date, with which it was highly successful. It also analyses how Henkes genever became an important product for traditional celebrations in Ghana. The contribution is part of the book accompanying the exhibition 'Een Beste Borrel: 200 jaar Henkes' in the Nationaal Jenevermuseum in Schiedam from October 2024 to February 2025.
