Abstract
A Dutch scientific journal that has existed for almost 110 years has a long and often eventful history. Looking back on this history, it is possible and also enlightening to describe it in phases based on significant moments, which often coincide with changes in the editorial board, the management, or the publisher. The structure followed in this contribution is chronological: the period from its founding to 1920, the period from 1920 to 1966, the period from 1966 to 1987, and finally the period from 1987 to the present.
