Abstract

According to the idea of the brain as the organ of perception, thought, feeling and action, any form of mind control will have to influence this part of the body. In contrast to media-related and therefore indirect methods such as advertising or propaganda, there have been and still are scientific attempts to influence nerve cells directly using brain-computer interfaces. During the Cold War, the brain researcher José M. R. Delgado, who worked at Yale University, stood out with his vision of civilizing people by controlling their emotions. The brain implants developed today, in particular by Elon Musk's company Neuralink, serve justifiable clinical purposes. However, the vision of writing language into the brain suggests the idea of mind control.
