Abstract

This note describes the required input, decision process and life cycle for the design, installation/adaptation, and operation of fixed target beam lines at the North and East Areas at CERN. The process from initiation of an experimental proposal, feasibility and cost evaluation, approval and installation towards operation and maintenance is presented. The requirements on each level of elaboration are outlined for every step, ensuring that the necessary information is available in due time. In addition, the interfaces from the experiment to different CERN groups such as Experimental Areas, Radiation Protection, Beam Instrumentation, Sources, Targets and Interactions, Metrology, Cooling and Ventilation and others are briefly explained.
