    Abstract

    A short biography of Dutch West India Company official Jacob de Petersen, who traded slaves in Curacao and Elmina, West Africa, and became one of the most powerful West India Company admistrators, as well as a member of the Amsterdam city goverment. It relates how private slave trade was entangled with the economic interests of the city of Amsterdam.
