Leading to a better outcome

These are a number of characteristics mentioned in the literature that are typical fot the transformational leader. Most important, this leader should have a vision on how to bring children and adolescents to a good adulthood, and make sure that youth policy and child and youth services share ambitions and goals. This vision should also be on
• Firstly how to use, produce and share knowledge on how to deal with problems and how to be inclusive and empowering;
• Secondly how to build a reflective policy and practice so that the transformation process will become a learning process;
• Thirdly how to bring this all to better outcomes for children and how to monitor these outcomes becoming better and better (or not) ;
• And fourthly how to do all this within the financial boundaries that are set.
In my view it is crucial to have and further develop this vision in a dialog with all the stakeholders, also with youngsters and parents. This increases the chance that these leaders are visionary and innovative, and at the same time are capable of using all the expertise that is present in the field, are transparent on the outcomes of their policy, and are also willing to learn for themselves.
