Abstract
Roebuck Bay project, which surveyed long-distance migratory birds near Broome, in the north of Western Australia is described. The project brought together students of geographic information system (GIS), surveying and cartography which resulted in a great multidisciplinary learning and some informative ecological maps. The project revealed the students the value of possessing a broad range of spatial knowledge. The project also taught the students that fundamental skills in various geospatial disciplines are all necessary to ensure useable and reliable datasets.
