    Abstract

This article describes and analyses early evidence for missals and sacramentaries copied in Beneventan script, the minuscule characteristic of Southern Italy. It draws on the evidence of extant manuscript and medieval booklists. The picture that emerges is of a clear preference for the integrated missal format from the earliest period for which we have evidence, and thus considerably earlier than this format came to dominate north of the Alps.
