Abstract
The invention relates to the field of medicine, more specifically to means and methods for mobilizing hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Provided is a composition comprising a microRNA-125 (miR-125) nucleic acid molecule, or the complement sequence thereof, and/or an agent capable of inhibiting a target of miR-125, said target comprising in its RNA sequence the seed sequence 5'-CCUGAG-3', for use in a method for enhancing the mobilization of HSCs from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood in a subject. Also provided is a composition comprising (i) a miR-125 nucleic acid molecule, or the complement sequence thereof, and/or an agent capable of inhibiting a target of miR-125, said target comprising in its RNA sequence the seed sequence 5'-CCUGAG-3', and (ii) a further stem cell mobilization agent.
