Abstract

A search for violation of the charge-parity (𝐢⁒𝑃) symmetry in the 𝐷+ β†’πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+β’πœ‹+ decay is presented, with proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fbβˆ’1, collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. A novel model-independent technique is used to compare the 𝐷+ and π·βˆ’ phase-space distributions, with instrumental asymmetries subtracted using the 𝐷+𝑠 β†’πΎβˆ’β’πΎ+β’πœ‹+ decay as a control channel. The 𝑝 value for the hypothesis of 𝐢⁒𝑃 conservation is 8.1%. The 𝐢⁒𝑃 asymmetry observables π΄πœ™β’πœ‹+𝐢⁒𝑃|𝑆=(0.95Β±0.4⁒3statΒ±0.2⁒6syst)Γ—10βˆ’3 and 𝐴¯𝐾*0⁒𝐾+𝐢⁒𝑃|𝑆=(βˆ’0.26Β±0.5⁒6statΒ±0.1⁒8syst)Γ—10βˆ’3 are also measured. These results show no evidence of 𝐢⁒𝑃 violation and represent the most sensitive search performed through the phase space of a multibody decay.
