Abstract

Whereas in times of corona, spiritual caregivers still received the stamp of crucial profession in the care and social support category, that recognition is not evident in other social issues. The professional standard lacks a uniform line and concrete translation into practice. This gives mental health professionals a lot of freedom to fill this role, but for the outside world a clear picture of what the profession can do is missing. With this article, the authors want to stimulate the debate around the social role. By critically reflecting on a symposium on this theme organized by the VGVZ Science Committee, they signal key aspects of the envisioned social role and make a first move to take this debate further.
